Empowering Wellness for Urban American Indian and Alaska Native Communities
Tucson Indian Center (TIC) Wellness Department (WD) is committed to supporting the health and well-being of Urban American Indian and Alaskan Native (AI/AN) communities. Our wellness department provides health education, prevention, case management services, and transportation to/from the TIC Health Services clinic through a range of programs tailored to address the unique needs of our community.
Our services are funding through the Indian Health Service (IHS), Substance Abuse Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Pima County Health Department, and Northern Arizona University (NAU).
Our Programs & Services

Substance Abuse Mental Health Service Administration-Native Connections program (SAMHSA-NC)
Helping individuals build resilience and recover through education, intervention, and community support for suicide prevention and substance mis-use. -
IHS Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention (SPIP)
Offering compassionate crisis support, prevention programs, and healing services for families and individuals to those affected by suicide. -
IHS Domestic Violence Program
Providing advocacy, safety planning, and support services to those affected by domestic violence, while working to prevent violence through education and community engagement. -
Pima County Health Department’s Overdose to Action (OD2A)
Addressing opioid and overdose prevention through harm reduction, education, intervention, and connection to resources. -
Pima County Health Department’s Tobacco Prevention program
Educating and empowering Native Youth to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke through peer-education. - CDC Tribal Practices for Wellness in Indian Country (TPWIC)
Promoting traditional healing, physical activity, and community wellness practices to strengthen Native health.

IHS Special Diabetes Program for Indians (SDPI)
Supporting diabetes prevention, education, and management with a culturally tailored approach through nutrition and physical activity. -
IHS 4-in-1 Program
Providing community health, immunization, disease prevention, and health education services to enhance wellness in AI/AN populations.

IHS Title V Case Management and Community Health Representative (CHR)
Supports connecting individuals with vital resources and essential healthcare services to enhance their well-being and improve health outcomes. CHR services are for elder and home-bound individuals in need of additional support.
IHS Title V Transportation Services
Ensuring reliable access to healthcare, we provide transportation services for medical appointments at the Rodney W. Palimo Sr. Clinic, the Tucson Indian Center’s clinic that provide Primary Care and Behavioral Health services. Our goal is to remove transportation barriers so community members can receive the care they need.
